( the dumb part is that yukine could have probably stopped their tiny collision, but he's been pretty much glued to his phone for the last several hours. it's not every day that your best friend gets a boyfriend and if he stops fucking with koushuu about it, someone should probably proclaim him dead.
as a result, he ends up gently knocking into shouto. )
Mm? Wh—Oh! Shouto!
( an immediate bright smile at the sight of him. )
Not really. I think I only know yours and Chiyo's?
( honestly. )
Trying to figure out what I should get Koushuu or Yato. I like this time of year but I also kind of hate it, you know?
( another bat joins the second and there's something like a squeak in the air as they meet up. while yukine hears it, he doesn't even think a thing about it. )
Sometimes you just know, but other times nothing seems right. Like just . . .nothing! That's the part that I hate. Because if you get the wrong thing then you look like a jerk who doesn't know them or cheap or something! It sucks!
( vague hand gesture. )
Chiyo is someone who has similar taste as me so she's easy, but Koushuu probably already got the best Christmas present already. And Yato is someone I haven't gotten him a gift in years, probably. Pretty sure it was something stupid, but this year I want to get him something nice because he's been trying really hard.
[... Trying to do what? Chop off more hands? No, he should definitely keep that to himself. Yukine sees something in the guy even if Shouto would rather never speak to him again.
He definitely can't help with Yato's gift.]
Koushuu likes baseball, right? Who's his favorite pro?
( the sounds of the bats squeaking is starting to get louder and a bit more distinguishable as a melody. it's kind of creepy and yukine isn't sure if they should start running or not. )
Uh—
( cute? he's not so sure. it feels kind of sinister to him or maybe that's the knowledge that retrospec is definitely behind this. )
Hey, let's bail.
( he says, but he's not giving shouto much choice with the way that he tightens his grip on shouto's hand and pulls him into the nearest cafe. )
( yukine insists as he tucks the both of them in a tiny little reading nook in the corner of the cafe. it's effectively hidden away from view from the rest of the cafe by a fancy half partition already decorated with various holiday tins and statues, which yukine thinks is perfect. if they can just dodge out of view, then they shouldn't be bothered!
he almost gets time to feel relieved as he plops down onto the couch, tugging at shouto's hand to encourage him down with him. )
See, they're not going—
( he starts, words dying in his throat as the bats swoop in as soon the next customer opens the door. fearlessly, they linger almost directly over them, dangling the mistletoe between them in a completely unsubtle hint. )
( there's no hesitation or delay. when shouto asks for his hand, yukine easily offers it up to him for whatever shouto is planning on doing. if shouto would prefer to kiss his hand then yukine isn't about to stop him. in fact, it's actually really sweet.
( if it's a kiss that's required of them, then why not do it right? sure, he could probably keep trying to run away, but yukine really didn't want to spend his entire day fleeing from obnoxious bats trying to goad him into kissing the person he'd actually like to kiss. . . when he could just kiss him.
and besides, even if that's not what the bats are after, yukine still comes out a winner in this situation. )
Positive.
( his offered hand clamps around shouto's, holding it gently as he leans forward, his other hand holding on to the back of the couch behind them for support. he can feel his heart jump in his chest as he closes the distance, lips softly pressing against shouto's in a chaste kiss. )
[He doesn't have words or thought to correctly convey his embarrassment and pleasure at the situation at hand.
As soon as Yukine's lips are against his, he goes completely still. Before kissing back, soft and hesitant- he's new at this and he's trying to do his best.
But it does seem like enough for the bats to leave them alone.
( as far as stuff like this is concerned, yukine has no real experience underneath his belt, but he thinks that's perfectly okay. maybe this isn't as romantic as it could be or maybe he isn't going to be amazing at this, but the important part is that he's getting to do it for the first time with shouto. it's also okay that shouto doesn't react at first, yukine is honestly expecting as much because he thinks he'd do the same if the positions were reversed. he just offers shouto a reassuring squeeze of the hand. maybe that'll help.
he's just about to pull away when shouto reacts and suddenly yukine can't bear to cut this short. he keeps kissing him instead, slow and gentle as if he had any idea what he's doing. maybe if he fakes it, it'll turn out alright in the end.
thankfully, both bats seem satisfied and exit the cafe.
[Shouto has no idea about the bats, because this is his first kiss with his boyfriend and it's making his heart pound. It's nothing big or heavy... but it's still his first kiss with Yukine and it's in public and he can't help smiling into it.
But he does eventually have to pull away.]
... Wow.
[Is that the right reaction? Who knows. It is, however, his reaction.]
( yukine lets out an anxious little laugh when they break away, suddenly all nerves as he tries to wrestle with the fact that he just kissed shouto in a coffee shop like it was nothing. it was great and he doesn't regret a second of it, but he also feels a little shame for being bold in the wrong place. hopefully it wasn't too bad for shouto.
he ducks his head down a little bit, trying to hide that belated flush that colours his cheeks. )
Sorry I didn't do that sooner!
( it isn't what he means to say. it's just the first thought that comes in his head and it's falling out his mouth before he can think to stop it. of course they hadn't kissed before this! there wasn't time and then shouto forget and that didn't feel quite right in itself and—

as a result, he ends up gently knocking into shouto. )
Mm? Wh—Oh! Shouto!
( an immediate bright smile at the sight of him. )
I'm out getting gift ideas.

Do you want company? Or are you also looking for mine?
no subject
Don't worry, I already got yours nicely picked out.
( then extending a hand out. )
It'll be better with company, I think.
no subject
[But he'll tuck his list away before taking Yukine's hand. Still completely oblivious to the bat that's started following them.]

( honestly. )

[Shouto hums noncommittally. He doesn't like Yato, but that's his problem.]
What do you hate about it?
no subject
( clicking his tongue. )
Sometimes you just know, but other times nothing seems right. Like just . . .nothing! That's the part that I hate. Because if you get the wrong thing then you look like a jerk who doesn't know them or cheap or something! It sucks!

( swinging shouto's arm a little. )
That'd be like I just bought you some Captain Might comics.

[Meanwhile, the bats are starting to become much more insistent with their squeaking, it almost sounds like a song...? That's impossible.]
I already own all of them anyway.
no subject
( cuz really.
the first squeak hadn't been noticeable but now it's impossible to ignore. he stops to glance behind his shoulder at the bats hovering above them. )
What the hell is that.
no subject
[Shouto takes the time to look up at them- now it definitely sounds like All I Want for Christmas is You]
It's a mistletoe bat?
no subject
( stopping as he stares up at them with narrowed eyes as he tries to figure out what sort of fresh new hell this is supposed to be. )
Bats?
( then it dawns on him. shouto just said "mistletoe" and sure enough, there's mistletoe tied right at their little necks.
oh fuck, what is the expectation here? )
Is this their idea of holiday cheer?
no subject
They're kind of cute. In their own way.
It's weird that they're squeaking out a song though.
no subject
Uh—

( he says, but he's not giving shouto much choice with the way that he tightens his grip on shouto's hand and pulls him into the nearest cafe. )
no subject
He's sure they're mistletoe bats though, so really if they wanted them to go away they'd just need to--
And then Yukine yanks him off.]
Do you think they're going to leave if we wait in here?
no subject

Yukine, give me your hand? I don't want our first kiss to be forced by Recolle bats.
[Getting caught under the mistletoe means mistletoe kisses, doesn't it?]
no subject
there's just one thing. )
Hey, um.
( he's gotta say it. )
If it's with you, no kiss would be forced.
no subject
His face is getting so red, he wasn't aware he could do this. And his left side is starting to steam a little bit.]
Y...You're sure? [What's he doing? Stuttering like this?]
no subject
