[ Hearing his voice only makes her want to cry again. She opens her mouth and chokes on her words. ]
I-I'm... [ She's not okay. ] I'm...
I need a hug. [ She needs to hug him, to make sure he's still here, he's still alive. He's not dead. He's not a ghost. He's not or he's not yet, and that's the most heartbreaking consideration. ]
I'm at the bus stop closest to your house. I'm coming to you.
( he doesn't know what to say. it takes every ounce of self control that he has not to start running towards her. something's wrong, something's happened, and there's a weird kind of fury bubbling underneath his skin. what has her so upset? who has her so upset? he's going to find out and once he does, he's going to beat who ever caused this until his hands are raw. )
Okay. Okay.
( that line of thought is all it takes before he's sprinting down the street towards the bus stop. it doesn't matter that he just said okay and doesn't matter that she said she was coming to him. she was the one who needed the hug, right? she came running for him last time, didn't she?
how could he not?
he runs nonstop until he gets there, completely out of breath, but all but crashing into her to embrace her in a strong hug. he hasn't even bothered to hang up yet, only had enough mind to shove it into his pocket. )
( the calling wasn't actually necessary this time around considering that this time yato isn't coming over at some wild hour of the night. the sun is out, everyone is awake and most likely already out somewhere in the town enjoying the nice weather while yukine sits on the back porch. he hadn't really had any plans for the day, but he didn't want to be inside either. so this was his solution, hanging out back here and trying to spot birds.
when he gets yato's call, he hangs it up immediately and walks over to the unlocked gate to greet him. )
C'mon.
( waving him in after pulling it open and then pointing to the set of chairs on the porch. )
[ He follows Yukine to the porch, glancing around for anyone who might be there to hear their conversation. He would prefer to stand, if only to have some way of channeling his pent up apprehension, but he'll sit. Awkwardly, on the forward half of the seat, hands in jacket pockets. He's glad he suggested somewhere in the open air.
Small talk would be a farce, so he'll dive right into it once Yukine is settled. ]
So, uh... I should apologize for being secretive last time. I didn't handle things too well.
[ He isn't too proud for anything where his friends are concerned. Quite the contrary. ]
[ His head tips heavily as he continues to weather the storm. He can't believe he is continuing to hold this phone to his ear so a high school kid can scold him. ]
... Attempted murder. Allegedly.
[ And also in truth. But this call is being monitored, and even if it won't matter in the long run, long-standing habit tells him not to give the cops any ammo they don't strictly need. ]
But I know for a fact that they won't be able to convict me. Not a chance!
